# Disconnecting a channel

> Remove a channel from a workspace. Disconnecting deletes every post of that channel in TryPost.

Only the account owner and workspace admins can disconnect a channel. See [Members and permissions](/knowledge-base/settings/members-and-permissions).

<Warning>
  Disconnecting deletes **every post of that channel in TryPost** — drafts, scheduled posts, posts pending approval, failed posts, sent posts and posts imported from the network — together with their media. Posts already on the network stay there. This cannot be undone.
</Warning>

## Before you disconnect

If the channel is misbehaving or shows **Connection lost**, you probably want to reconnect it instead: [reconnecting](/knowledge-base/channels/connecting#reconnect-a-channel) keeps all of its posts, queue and settings. The disconnect dialog offers this first: **Having issues with your connection? Try Refresh connection first.**

## Disconnect a channel

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the channel's menu">
    In **Settings → Channels**, open the menu of the channel and click **Disconnect**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Type the keyword">
    The **Disconnect** *channel name* dialog explains what will be deleted. Type `disconnect` in the box (the copy button next to the keyword copies it). The keyword is case-sensitive: `DISCONNECT` does not confirm.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Click **Disconnect channel**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The keyword is translated: in another interface language you type the word that the dialog shows.

## What happens

* **Posts** — every post of the channel is deleted, whatever its status, with its media. No `post.deleted` [webhook](/knowledge-base/settings/webhooks) or email is sent for those posts. An older post created before TryPost 2.0 that also targets another channel keeps that other channel and only loses this one.
* **Queue** — the channel's queue and posting schedule go with it.
* **Repurpose** — a [repurpose](/knowledge-base/repurpose) that used this channel as its source is paused, and the confirmation message tells you how many were paused. A repurpose that published to this channel drops it from its destinations, and is paused if no destination is left.
* **Insights** — the channel leaves [Insights](/knowledge-base/insights/overview). If you connect the same account again later, TryPost imports its recent posts again.
* **The network** — nothing changes on the network. To revoke TryPost's access there too, remove it in the network's own app settings.

## Via the API and MCP

Disconnecting is available in the web app only.
