# Publish

> See and manage every post: the queue, approvals, drafts and what was sent, as a list or a calendar.

**Publish** is where your posts live. Open it from the sidebar for **All channels**, or open one channel in the **Channels** section and pick **Publish** to see only that channel.

Each post belongs to one channel. When you save a post for several channels in the [composer](/knowledge-base/publish/composer), TryPost creates one post per channel, so each can be edited, moved or deleted on its own.

## Tabs

| Tab | What it shows |
| - | - |
| **Queue** | Scheduled posts, and posts being published right now, in time order. |
| **Approvals** | Posts waiting for approval. See [Approvals](/knowledge-base/publish/approvals). |
| **Drafts** | Drafts. |
| **Sent** | Published, partially published and failed posts. |

Lists load more posts as you scroll.

Published and partially published posts are kept for 2 years, then deleted from TryPost with their media. They stay on the network.

<Note>
Self-hosting TryPost? Change this with `POST_HISTORY_RETENTION_DAYS`. See [Configuration](/self-hosting/configuration).
</Note>

Sent posts show their latest metrics right on the card, with when they were last refreshed ("Refreshed 2 hours ago"). Use the arrows to page through the metrics, and **See post insights** for everything the network reports. Until the first collection a post shows "Metrics have not been collected yet." Networks without analytics (LinkedIn, Telegram, Discord, Google Business) show none; see [Insights](/knowledge-base/insights/overview).

**Sent** also shows posts you published directly on the network, outside TryPost. They are marked "This was published directly from Instagram" (or the channel's network).

## List and Calendar

Switch between **List** and **Calendar**.

* The calendar has **3 days**, **Week** and **Month** views, and a **Status** filter: **All posts**, **Drafts**, **Scheduled** or **Sent**.
* **Undated drafts** lists drafts without a date.
* Clicking a time on the calendar opens the composer at that time.
* Instagram channels have a third view, **Grid**: an approximation of your profile grid.

## Filters and time zone

* **Labels** and **Channels** filter the list and the calendar. **Untagged** shows posts without labels. See [Labels](/knowledge-base/settings/labels).
* **Time zone** sets the zone the page shows times in. It starts as your own time zone from [Preferences](/knowledge-base/settings/preferences). Changing it only changes what you see; each channel still publishes on its own schedule.

## Post actions

Each post card has buttons and a menu. What you see depends on the post's status and your permissions:

| Action | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Edit** | Open the post in the composer. |
| **Publish Now** | Publish a draft right away. |
| **Add to queue** | Put a draft in the channel's next free queue slot. Needs posting times on that channel. |
| **Move to top**, **Move up**, **Move down** | Reorder queued posts. See [Queue](/knowledge-base/publish/queue). |
| **Make Recurring** / **Edit Recurrence** | Repeat a scheduled post. See [Recurring posts](/knowledge-base/publish/recurring-posts). |
| **Duplicate Post** | Create a draft copy of the post right away and open it in the composer. |
| **Move to Drafts** | Unschedule a post. |
| **Edit labels** | Change the post's labels. |
| **Delete Post** | Delete the post and its media from TryPost. Members who need approval can delete only posts they wrote, or a request they made while it is still pending. |
| **Open post on Instagram** (or the channel's network) | Open the live post. |
| **See post insights** | Open the post's metrics. See [Channel insights](/knowledge-base/insights/channel-insights). |
| **Post Details** | Show the full post, its channels, who created it and, once sent, its metrics. |

Posts that are **Publishing**, **Published**, **Partially Published** or **Failed** cannot be edited or deleted. To try again, duplicate the post. Deleting a post never removes it from the network.

## Statuses

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Draft** | Saved, not scheduled. |
| **Pending approval** | Waiting for an approver. |
| **Scheduled** | Will publish at its time. |
| **Publishing** | Being sent to the network now. |
| **Retrying** | The network had a temporary problem; TryPost tries again at the time shown. |
| **Published** | Live on the network. |
| **Partially Published** | Some parts went out and some failed. |
| **Failed** | Could not be published. |

### Why a post failed

A failed post shows **Why it failed** with a plain reason and the **Message from the network**. The reasons are:

* The network didn't accept the media format, size or length. See [Media](/knowledge-base/media).
* The network is limiting how often this channel can post.
* The channel doesn't have permission to publish this post.
* The network rejected the content under its posting rules.
* The network had an error, was unavailable, or took too long to respond.
* The channel's connection expired. Reconnect it in [Channel settings](/knowledge-base/channels/settings).
* Publishing stopped before the network confirmed the post.
* We couldn't publish this post. (the network gave no reason TryPost recognizes)

A post that is longer than the network allows fails with a message such as "This post has 312 characters, but X allows 280."

## Notes

Open **Notes** from the notes button on a post card to talk with your team about it. Press <kbd>Enter</kbd> to send. You can **Edit** or **Delete** your own notes; edited notes are marked "edited", and **Load older notes** shows earlier ones. A new note emails every workspace member except its author. On a post pending approval, only the approvers and the member who asked get the email. Each person can turn these emails off with **New note on a post** in [Notifications](/knowledge-base/settings/notifications).

## Channel page extras

When you open **Publish** for a single channel, the header also shows:

* the posting goal, "2/5 posts sent this week", with **Sent**, **Scheduled** and **To do**. The week follows your start of week in [Preferences](/knowledge-base/settings/preferences).
* **Show posting times** and **Manage posting times** for the channel's [queue](/knowledge-base/publish/queue).

## Empty workspace

A workspace without channels shows "Welcome to TryPost 👋" with a button to connect your first channel. See [Connecting a channel](/knowledge-base/channels/connecting).
