A repurpose watches one Instagram or Facebook account for new videos you post outside TryPost, and republishes each one to the other channels you pick. Post a Reel on Instagram, and the same video goes to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and the rest without copying it by hand. Repurpose is in the sidebar, marked Beta. Only members who publish directly see it: the account owner, admins, and members whose Publishing access is Publishes directly. See Members and permissions.

Create a repurpose

1

New repurpose

In Repurpose, click New repurpose.
2

Pick the source account

Choose the Instagram or Facebook account TryPost should watch, then click Create. Only these networks can be a source, “because they are the only networks that let us download the video.”
3

Configure it

On the Configuration tab, choose what to watch for, the publishing mode and the destinations. Changes save as you make them (Saved).
4

Activate

Click Activate at the top of the page. Only posts published after you activate are replicated.
A new repurpose starts as a Draft, so nothing is replicated until you activate it.

Source

Watch for sets the kind of post that starts a repost: Reels, Videos or Stories. An account can feed one repurpose per format. Creating a second one for the same account and format opens the existing one; changing an existing one to a taken pair fails with “This account already feeds another repurpose. Edit that one instead.”

Destinations

“Pick the accounts that receive it. Each one publishes in the format you choose.”
  • Any other connected channel can be a destination, except Google Business: “Google Business cannot be a destination: its posts do not accept video.”
  • For each destination you choose its post type, which must carry a video, and the same network settings as in the composer. A Story can become a TikTok video or a YouTube Short; the formats do not have to match.
  • Settings a network needs to publish (the TikTok visibility, the Pinterest board, the Discord channel) must be filled in before you can activate or resume.
  • The source account cannot also be a destination.
The caption of the original is reused. Only a caption longer than a network’s limit is changed: it is shortened with AI, or cut at a word when AI is not available. Instagram destinations keep only the first 5 hashtags.

Publishing

Posts created by a repurpose appear in Publish like any other post.
Edge case: if the member who created the repurpose later loses direct publishing (their access changes to Needs approval), the posts it creates go to Approvals instead of being scheduled.

Status

The Activate, Pause, Resume and Disable buttons are at the top of the repurpose page. The Repurpose list shows each one’s Replicated count and Last checked time. On TryPost Cloud, an active repurpose checks its source about every 15 minutes. If the network limits requests, the next check waits longer.
Self-hosting TryPost? The check interval and back-off are set with REPURPOSE_POLL_INTERVAL_MINUTES and REPURPOSE_BACKOFF_MINUTES, and need the scheduler running. See Configuration.

When an account stops working

  • The source needs reconnecting: the repurpose stops by itself and shows “Replication is on hold: the account this repurpose watches needs to be reconnected.” Reconnect the account and the repurpose resumes on its own.
  • No destination is left: it stops with “Replication is on hold: no destination is available. Add one, then resume it.”
  • A destination needs reconnecting: the repurpose keeps running. Posts for that channel are still created and fail visibly, so you can retry them after reconnecting.
  • The source was disconnected: the repurpose has no source until you pick one. Disconnecting a channel reports how many repurposes were paused. See Disconnecting a channel.
For the other cases, once the problem is fixed the banner says “The problem is fixed. Resume this repurpose to start replicating again.” A repurpose that stopped by itself resumes from the moment you resume it, so the videos posted during the outage are not replayed. No email is sent when a repurpose stops.

Activity

The Activity tab lists every source post TryPost has seen (“Posts this account publishes outside TryPost will show up here.”), with its status and the posts it created. Skipped and failed items give the reason:
  • Already published through TryPost: the original was posted from TryPost, so it is not copied back.
  • The network did not share a downloadable file, usually because of copyrighted audio.
  • The video could not be downloaded.
  • Could not create the posts.
  • No destination was available to publish to.

Delete a repurpose

Open More actions at the top of the repurpose page and choose Delete repurpose: “Checks stop immediately. Posts already created stay in your calendar.”
