TryPost publishes posts and threads to Bluesky.

Connect your account

  1. In the sidebar, open Channels and click Connect channel (or use New > Connect a new channel)
  2. Choose Bluesky and click Connect Bluesky
  3. On the Connect Bluesky form, enter your Handle or email and an App Password, then click Connect Bluesky
  4. On the confirmation page, check the account and click Finish connection
TryPost opens the new channel’s Publish page and asks how many times a week you want to post. See Connecting channels for the full flow.
Bluesky doesn’t use OAuth. Create an App Password in your Bluesky settings — do not use your main password.

Media limits

The video size is the lexicon’s decimal value (300 000 000 bytes). Bluesky’s image blob limit is 2 MB (2 000 000 bytes), but TryPost re-encodes every non-GIF image under it at publish, so only the 10 MB hard cap applies to the original; a GIF over 2 MB fails at publish. Text and per-post options

  • 300 characters per post. TryPost counts code points, so an emoji counts as one.
  • Threads — click Start thread to add replies under the post, up to 24. Each reply has its own text and up to 4 media items, following the same rules as a post.
  • Link preview — the first link gets a preview card. Remove it with the × on the card (platforms[].meta.link_preview: false on the API).
  • Alt text — up to 2,000 characters per image.

Self-hosting setup

No API credentials are required for Bluesky. It works out of the box on any self-hosted instance.
Accounts connect through the default PDS, https://bsky.social. The connect form has no field for another server; to point every Bluesky connection at a different PDS, set:
Hide Bluesky with BLUESKY_ENABLED=false.
